Stability AI and Electronic Arts have formed a strategic partnership to co-develop generative AI models, tools, and workflows for use in game development, according to a release from Stability AI. The announcement did not specify a date.

The release states that Stability AI’s 3D research team will embed directly with EA’s artists and developers. Among the first joint initiatives described is accelerating the creation of Physically Based Rendering (PBR) materials through artist-driven workflows — specifically, generating 2D textures that preserve colour and light accuracy across environments.

The partnership will also pursue developing AI systems capable of pre-visualising entire 3D environments from prompts, according to the release, allowing artists to direct the generation of game content.

What the companies said

Prem Akkaraju, CEO of Stability AI, said: “EA is a pioneer in interactive entertainment and understands that innovation begins with the creator. At Stability AI, we put creators at the center and build around their specific needs. By embedding our 3D research team directly with EA’s artists and developers we’ll unlock the next level in world-building power. This kind of progress is only possible through deep partnership, where scientists and creators work side by side.”

Kallol Mitra, VP of Creative Innovation at EA, said: “Creativity has always been at the heart of everything our teams do. Together with Stability AI, we’re amplifying that creativity. Giving artists, designers, and developers the power to dream bigger and build more.”

Stability AI’s 3D model position

The release cites Stability AI’s standing on Hugging Face as evidence of its position in 3D generative AI: Stable Fast 3D, TripoSR, and Stable Point Aware 3D rank among the ten most-liked image-to-3D models on the platform, and Stable Zero123 is the most-liked text-to-3D model, according to Stability AI.

EA has operated for more than 40 years and describes itself as a global leader in digital interactive entertainment, according to the release.

The release notes that the EA partnership is part of Stability AI’s broader approach of working with enterprise partners across gaming, marketing and advertising, music, and entertainment. The company had previously announced a partnership with WPP, a marketing and communications company, to develop AI solutions for marketing and advertising.

The announcement did not include financial terms, timeline commitments, or detail which EA game titles or development teams will be involved in the initial work.
