Warner Music Group and Stability AI announced on November 19, 2025 a collaborative effort to develop AI music creation tools for professional use, according to a joint release from Stability AI.
The initiative will focus on tools for artists, songwriters, and producers, the announcement states, using what the companies describe as ethically trained models. The two companies said they will work directly with artists to understand how they interact with emerging technologies, with the goal of informing the design of those tools.
What the companies said
Carletta Higginson, EVP and Chief Digital Officer at WMG, was quoted in the release: “This collaboration represents an important step toward developing responsible, artist-friendly AI tools that expand creative possibilities while safeguarding the rights and integrity of music creators. Together, we’re laying the groundwork for an ethical music ecosystem that benefits artists and songwriters.”
Prem Akkaraju, CEO of Stability AI, said: “WMG is a leader in the global music and entertainment landscape, and we’re proud to partner with a company that shares our Artist First ethos. At Stability AI we put artists at the center and build tools that support their creative process. This partnership deepens that focus and will open new creative possibilities for artists through generative AI.”
Background on the technology
Stability AI’s Stable Audio family of models forms the basis for the partnership’s planned tools. According to the release, the models were trained exclusively on licensed data. Stable Audio was named to TIME’s Best Inventions list, and Stability AI has been recognised by Fortune as one of its 50 AI Innovators, according to the company.
The Stable Diffusion image model, which Stability AI released in August 2022, has been downloaded more than 350 million times, according to the same release.
The announcement did not specify a delivery timeline for the tools, detail revenue-sharing arrangements with artists, or name any specific artists involved in the initial development process.
WMG operates in more than 70 countries through a network of affiliates and licensees, according to the release. Its publishing arm, Warner Chappell Music, holds a catalogue of over one million copyrights.
